Active/Passive Solar HQ (2008-2022)
These are some of the things that are reducing the environmental impact of the old company HQ and staff:
- 3.6 kW solar photovoltaic power generation (a decent size when installed in 2010)
- Evacuated tube solar hot water system
- 10,300 l of rainwater tanks (used for toilets, garden taps and washing machine)
- Multi-split reverse-cycle heating/cooling (only heat/cool rooms when occupied)
- Passive solar design - including a "thermal chimney" (a louvered window at the top to vent the hottest air)
- Insulation: R3.0 m2K/W in the ceiling, R1.5 in the exterior walls
- Fully insulated hot water lines
- 6.38 mm "Comfort Plus" glass (with a low emissivity coating) windows
- Proper eaves (with vents!)
